Energy and Raw Materials Prices Still Heading Higher

leave a comment »

Some of you have asked: aren't you at least going to gloat about continuing higher energy and raw materials prices? Okay. Yeah, I guess I will.

I talked you through the 2006 Energy Outlook from the Bush Administration in an earlier post. Turns out, they failed to imagine our current scenario – an inexorable upward climb. Look at the chart and try to put a point at $72 and 2006. Scary.

Of course, all commodities aren't created equal. As more flash memory capacity has come on world markets, Apple reported higher margins than expected due to lower prices paid for flash.

But raw materials will continue to be under pressure as China and India and other emerging markets continue their red-hot growth.

April 21st update: make that $75/barrel. wow!
